Back To Basics With The Mediterranean Diet

Many of you may know that I am Greek Orthodox! I'm an active member of my church community, and I always strive to improve my relationship with God. I recently collaborated with my parish, and I will now be writing my own Health & Wellness column in the bimonthly Archangel Michael Church Newsletter The Trumpet.  

 

I'm sharing my first article with you all because it's relevant and very close to my cultural roots... it's all about the Mediterranean Diet! We all know about the Mediterranean Diet and its benefits, but the modern-day definition of the Mediterranean Diet has vastly changed.

 

 

In my latest article entitled Back To Basics With The Mediterranean Diet, I provide some insight into the true principles of the Mediterranean Diet and ways for you to incorporate this into your daily routine.

Over the past 50 years, the idea of typical Mediterranean fare has vastly changed. Mediterranean cuisine has now become synonymous with enormous portions, excessive calories, and saturated fat. White bread, processed meats, and fried foods are suddenly characterized as standard Greek cuisine!

 

The reality is that the classic Mediterranean diet consists mainly of fruits and vegetables, healthy fats, seafood, and hearty grains. Getting back to basics and following the classic Mediterranean diet can help prevent heart disease, certain cancers, diabetes, and even cognitive decline.

 

Here are the main principles of the classic Mediterranean diet, and tips on how you can implement these guidelines into your everyday routine...
